"Boss's son took complete credit for my/our work"

Boss's son took complete credit for my/our work I don't have the best job, but it's 100% remote without any invasive supervision, and it's been a high enough salary that allowed my husband to focus on building his career. Now that my husband has gotten a new job with a big pay bump, I'll be able to quit soon and look for something better for me without having to work AND job hunt. I'm very lucky to be in that position now.

BUT I've been at this job for over 1.5 years now without any raise. One of the perks of the job was that it's hourly AND I could work as many hours as I had things to work on each week, until about 3 months ago when I got limited to 40 hours per week with no exceptions because the finances weren't going great. Okay, whatever, that's fine, but I can't even ask my boss for a raise now because of the financial strain.

I'm the only full time (paid) employee, and the boss is the "money man" who started this company for his son (who gets access to daddy's money but is not technically "on payroll") to get experience while he's in college. His son was supposed to be VERY involved, not just in name but in practice. This has not happened at all and, in fact, the son has only gotten less and less involved to the point where he's MIA most of the time.

Boss dad and I worked INCREDIBLY hard on creating a eLearning course for our Internship Program which we just launched last week. It was the most commitment I've seen come out of my boss he has multiple kids college-aged and he's been super committed to crafting the course and our program to give our college interns the best hands-on learning experience with the best resources and great connections to our somewhat niche industry. We put in 3 months of work completely overhauling the program, and

Then, I get a call from boss's son yesterday demanding an overview video of our eCourse so he can provide it to the company he's applying for a job at for this summer, fully planning to take full credit AND HE CAN'T EVEN MAKE THE SCREEN CAPTURE AND VOICEOVER HIMSELF!!!!

HE HAD NO PART IN CREATING THIS PROGRAM. NO PART IN THE COURSE. HE'S BEEN ALL BUT MIA FOR MONTHS ON THE VERY FEW THINGS HE WAS ASKED TO DO FOR THIS COMPANY, AND HE EVEN TRIED ΤΟ HIS VERY FEW RESPONSIBILITIES OFF ON ME AND OUR PART TIME EMPLOYEE. (We told him no and I told Daddy dearest about it, since me and the part time guy both have zero time for anything extra, who then told me to just put son's responsibilities "on pause")

It just grinds my gears. I know it's basically what I signed up for, but my position has changed so much over the last 1.5 years that it kinda is what I signed up for but also kinda isn't what I signed up for. Just, fnepo babies.

    | Complete Attention_4. First, solidarity. I hate this is happening to you, and hope you find something better where your skills will be acknowledged.

His daddy's money and name is why people will hire him. Even if people know he's incompetent his connections will carry him to future success. If he's worthless, they'll just make him secretary of balloon doggies and let him WFH and only call on him when they need access to his network. He'll be just another overpaid nothingburger.

You will actually make things. That's something to take pride in, even if the system won't reward you for your contribution anywhere near what you deserve.

eraofcara5 OP. Omg thank you so much. I needed to hear this. I think you're exactly right. I've gained a lot of very valuable skills, doing everything and anything pretty much since I'm the only FT employee. It's just a waiting game until my husband gets a few of his increased paychecks under his belt and then it's on to better pastures.

the_pyrofish Years ago I read an article about a software company setting up their software in a clients network. Their client decided they wanted to go with another program. The software company has interest in what their competition was and had the client show it to them so they could learn what they could do better in the future against competitors. During the demo the lead dev of the software realized it was all of their functionality just changed enough to avoid IP theft. The dev called the

Robin-x-Hood · When you leave, make sure you list nepo baby as a core reason among the many. Will drive them both nuts.

eraofcara5 OP . 1 yr. ago Lol, I think my boss already knows. My boss actually came from nothing and made his money himself, had no real family support of his own when he was building his own career. And I think he knows he's overcompensated (literally, lol) for his own kids. And he'll write me a great rec letter so don't wanna burn that bridge if I don't have to.

Neithan02. easy, leave your footprints all over it, in the voice overs etc. so that it shows that he did not do it. a few times in the middle of it all etc. should suffice

Donotwork Have you plan for your exit aka get another job?
  • 19
eraofcara5 OP. I definitely know my stipulations for my next job, 100% remote being the #1 priority, but I'm not completely sure about what industry yet. I've gained a lot of great skills here and it's been a great résumé builder, so I could go in a lot of directions at this point, all of them on a project/program/department manager level, potentially even higher.
